Kayo's House Project. Tehran, Iran 2024
When a single house in a neighborhood undergoes a transformation, nothing in the city remains untouched by its impact. Kayo's House An experience of decision-making, change, transformation, and metamorphosis.
A renovation project situated in the Mir-Damad district of Tehran where the client, the user, and the designer converge at a common point. This project extends beyond these roles, involving others as well; from neighbors who have observed this old house for years and now witness its fundamental changes, to the two dogs living with the house's residents.
Passersby traversing the cobblestones at the end of the cul-de-sac and cats navigating through their sensitive olfactory territories.
This house influences all these perspectives, showcasing an experience of transformation. Spaces exist primarily in the human mind before they manifest in the physical world. What gives them existence is not just necessity and utility but also desire—desire to create and transform, the passion to overturn, reinvent, personalize, and leave a mark. The designer, the client, and the users each play a role in the chain of creating spaces.
These are spaces for conscious living and stepping toward experiences beyond mere existence. Thus, spaces come together to form larger entities: alleys, streets, neighborhoods, and cities. Everything begins with us, with the human mind and life. It is the one who boldly creates and transforms.
